Habs Aspire: Part of Haberdashers' Advantage
The Haberdashers’ Company is one of the Great Twelve Livery Companies and has a long history connected to the development of the City of London. Today, the Company is in the privileged position, thanks to benefactors both past and present, to continue with its educational and other charitable activities. This supports the Company purpose to “empower young people from every background to fulfil their potential through our schools and by supporting their communities”.

The Haberdashers’ family of schools educates 12,000 children and young people. For centuries these schools have been supported financially by (mainly) 17th Century endowments. Today this historical foundation supports an increasingly close-knit relationship with our schools as the Company uses its ability to create connections, harness expertise and open doors for the benefit of our school community. In its widest sense, this is Haberdashers’ Advantage.
Haberdashers' Advantage also describes a programme of activities to benefit these students, which you can read more about on the Programme Overview page of this site. This includes the Habs Aspire mentoring programme.
Habs Aspire
Habs Aspire aims to increase Sixth Form students' awareness of different career paths, build confidence and enable students and alumni to access the broader Haberdashers’ community as they move into the wider world. Read more about Habs Aspire on the Programme Overview page of this site.
On this site you can:
Submit a request for a mentor - only if you are a Year 12 student from a Haberdasher school
Find resources to support you on your mentoring journey
Communicate with fellow mentors to gain support and advice
Access wider news and photos from the Haberdashers' Advantage Programme
The Haberdashers’ family of schools is structured in four devolved groups – Haberdashers' Academy Trust South, Haberdashers' West Midlands Academy Trust, Haberdashers' Elstree Schools and Haberdashers' Monmouth Schools.
We are proud to include schools of all types and sizes within our family of schools – from a brand new state academy, like Haberdashers’ Borough Academy opened in 2019, to a centuries old independent boarding school, like Haberdashers’ Monmouth founded in 1614.
The relationship with Haberdashers supports the schools in three ways: through endowment funding, through the provision of governors and trustees from the Company membership and through the Haberdashers' Advantage programme.

Having a mentor has been vital in navigating university life and starting my career. Given the help I have received from the Company and my school over the years, this is a great opportunity to repay that debt. Knowing that I may be able to help a young adult who could’ve been in a similar position I would’ve been when growing up, is a great prospect for me.

Together we can create a powerful and wide-ranging network of mentees and mentors. This is an important part of our Haberdashers Advantage programme and a priority for us. We know the importance of mentoring for young people so that they can be guided in their next steps.

As someone who has had a mentor throughout my working life, I know the importance of having someone there, who can offer objective guidance and support. And I’m particularly delighted to be doing this via the Haberdashers’ company. As a proud alumni of the school in Elstree, I couldn’t think of a better way to pay it forward.

The Aspire programme is a brilliant initiative that I’m honoured to be part of. Having been in the shoes of a sixth-former not too long ago, I know just how beneficial a mentor can be in today’s world when starting to navigate that daunting path beyond school.
